My days as a bride-to-be were filled with hectic routines of planning my dream wedding, long hours of taping, exercising, and, if schedule permitted, traveling to escape from all the stress.
My friends warned me that being this hands-on in planning my own wedding would eventually drive me crazy, but I wanted to prove them wrong. I’m marrying the love of my life, why wouldn’t I want to make sure that everything about our big day turns out perfectly?
I often get asked by people how I kept myself sane with everything that I had going on at the time. Preparing a destination wedding was absolutely no joke. You were plagued not only with logistical concerns, but also with seemingly simple tasks that were apparently really hard to finalize. (Like the seat plan! Who knew that was so important?!)
Taking control
Despite all that was going on in my life, I’m proud to say that I managed to take full control of my inner Bride-zilla. And even though she came out at times, I always managed to get back to normal somehow.
Here are five of my best tips on how I remained calm and fabulous through it all:
- Make a vision board.
Things will definitely be smoother if you’re 100-percent sure about what you want for your Big Day. Keep a vision board that contains themes, pegs and color schemes that will keep you focused. If you’re not into cutting out photos from magazines, there is always Pinterest!
- Delegate!
The great thing about having friends is that they’re always there for you when you need them—most especially when planning your wedding.
I enlisted the help of my friends to do certain tasks. Not only did it help ease the stress and make the planning and execution much more fun, it gave my wedding a more personalized touch.
- Exercise
It’s true, exercising really does lift your mood. Instead of bingeing on fast food and sweets to alleviate stress, I say, go for a run. Working out regularly will keep you focused, fit and fab.
- Keep your social life
Don’t forget to make time for the people who matter most to you. Go out for drinks with your girls, have dinner with your high school barkada, and treat your mom to coffee on Sundays.
Drowning yourself in work and stress won’t do you any good. I get so much planning done when I make time to spend Sundays with my family.
- Treat yourself
This doesn’t necessarily mean splurging on expensive products, or salon and spa treatments. It could be as simple as spending an extra 5-10 minutes in the bath after a long day of work.
My fave? Indulging in long, luxurious baths using Lux Body Wash and Soap. Not only does it leave my skin smelling amazing, but the fragrance also makes me feel like I had my own little spa session in my bathroom. Plus, it never fails to help me feel fabulous!—Contributed
