Anna Fegi has come a long way since being discovered in 1993 in Cebu, where Ryan Cayabyab had conducted a talent search for new members of his teen pop group.
Blessed with powerful pipes and a high vocal range, Fegi earned accolades—becoming a top choice as interpreter in songwriting competitions, releasing solo albums, appearing in local and international stage musicals, and singing in cruise ships where she met Adam Brown, a musician who’s now her husband.
Fegi is Gary Valenciano’s special guest at his two-night benefit concert “Love in Motion,” Feb. 14 and 15, at the grand ballroom of Shangri-La at the Fort in Bonifacio Global City (BGC).
Inquirer Lifestyle had a recent chat with Fegi.
What have you been up to for recently? You’ve been away from the country again.
I’ve been performing in an international cruise ship as a headliner act. Also, my husband Adam and I put up Brown Academy of Music (BAM) last year in Cebu. The school offers intensive courses on voice, drums, keyboards, guitar, bass, saxophone and violin.
We also have a special course for kids aged 6 months to 5 years called Baby Aria’s Music 1 and 2. This course is dedicated to my still-born baby girl, Aria, whom I lost in November 2016.
Today we have 120 students in the academy.
Is this the first time you’re performing with Gary V, and what can the audience expect?
I first performed with Gary as one of the mainstays in the “ASAP” in the early 2000s. But this is my first collaboration with him in a major concert. ‘Love in Motion’ is Gary’s first solo Valentine concert in over a decade, and also his first time to perform with the AMP, a big band with Mel Villena as musical director.
The audiences can look forward to Gary’s fantastic repertoire and, of course, my numbers with him. The show has an old-school vibe with beautiful music from past eras. The music and songs are diverse and I know people will enjoy the show.
What new things have you discovered about music and yourself as an artist?
I am more inspired to sing live now because I dedicate my every performance to Aria Mikeila. I make it a point to give my all every time I sing live or record a song in a studio because I know Aria is listening to me in heaven. I always think of her every day. And she is the driving force that inspires me to aspire for excellence and perfection as far as my craft as a singer is concerned.
