Naturopathic doctor shares secrets to an awesome life

t0221rodriguez-healthy options_1Renowned naturopathic doctor Dr. James Rouse recently held a series of talks in the Philippines. The talk was part of the 2016 Healthy Options event called “Vitamins of Life: Eat, Think, Move, Thrive.”

Dr. Rouse talked about various way to achieve a meaningful and healthy lifestyle. Rouse also gave meditation and yoga /spinning classes. The event was held at Shangri-La at the Fort, where participants were thrilled to try the swanky Kerry Sports Manila gym in the new hotel.

A huge part of the talk was based on Rouse’s book, “Think Eat Move Thrive: The Practice for an Awesome Life,” a book co-authored with his wife, Dr. Debra Rouse. The book describes Rouse’s holistic health system, called the Think Eat Move Thrive (TEMT) Program. Healthy Options provided us a copy of the book, signed personally by the health guru, of course.

In the book, Rouse gives readers practical tips to change one’s lifestyle for the better. The book enjoins readers to look within, to start changing one’s mindset and replace quick health fixes with simple practices and mindful techniques. The information offered by the book is definitely not a diet fad, nor a quick-fix health trend.

Simple, logical advice

“Think Eat Move Thrive” offers simple, logical advice that will definitely appeal to casual readers. While easy to read, the book is still filled with great information for hardcore health buffs. The book even has recipes and exercise modules for the reader.

The book strives to counter what the author calls an extreme epidemic of “unhappiness, unhealthiness, and underliving.” The book describes a daily program that has three sections: Think, which studies the power of positive thinking, and how the mind can influence physical health; Eat, which extols the virtues of healthy eating and controlled caloric consumption; and Move, a treatise on the goodness of physical activity and exercise.

The book contains intuitive tips and steps that further expound on certain subjects. QR codes are also placed in the books; readers can scan the codes with their smartphones to access more updated articles online. The entire book is essentially a primer that prepares readers for the 30-day plan that follows up on Think Eat Move Thrive. The plan contains recipes, daily meal plans, a journaling portion, and daily tips.

The book is filled with cited studies and dissertations, lending credence to the work. Although meticulously written and prepared by the couple, the book is very readable. —CONTRIBUTED
