Tinapa Lumpia, Pancit Maria, adobo rice and more Pinoy faves | Lifestyle.INQ

OCTOBER 27, 2022

The hospital is one place I don’t mind not seeing. Whether there’s someone sick to visit or just being there for a check-up is something I don’t look forward to.

I pity the patients especially when they get their food ration. Most of them are on restricted diets and, therefore, have horrible tasting food, or even if there are no restrictions, most hospitals have “sick” menus. I have eaten food some patients don’t want to touch and understand how easy it is to diet in a hospital.

Today, many hospitals have various dining places to choose from. Fortunately for visitors, there are fast food joints, cafés and specialty restaurants

There is one hospital though I don’t mind visiting: Makati Medical Center. A restaurant with wonderful food, Floating Island has been around for decades. And as its name denotes, its image and food are independent of the hospital food reputation.

Eating at Floating island has been a treat to many visitors for years. I recently discovered that one need not get sick or visit the sick to dine in this restaurant.

It opened a new branch at Ayala Malls The 30th along Meralco Avenue in Pasig. I was just there recently and realized how pleasant it is to enjoy delicious food without having to worry about someone sick.

I started off with the Tinapa Lumpia with vinegar. Even without the vinegar, this works. Loved it.

Then came the Gambas al Ajillo—plump, sautéed shrimps in garlic with some scrambled eggs. Brilliant idea that also went well. To me, this dish with steamed rice is good enough for me.

I loved the Pancit Maria. An original dish of the restaurant, it is similar to pancit canton with lots of veggies but the noodles they use are unique. The flat noodles are specially made and can be found only here. Sarap!

Good eats

We had Pork Sisig which was good, too.

Its Crispy Pata is also a winner and considered one of the best in town.

We also had a boneless Dagupan Garlic Bangus with a side dish of Kilawing Puso ng Saging. Yummy!

All these were eaten with adobo rice, with chunks of pork adobo and sautéed in adobo sauce. Pretty good! I also tried the turmeric fried chicken. Also good.

And to seal the deal, I had their refreshing halo halo. To me, a simple ingredient in halo halo that takes it to another level is the pinipig. Bitin without it. And you know what else, their prices are quite reasonable.

Now I can enjoy the Floating Island restaurant’s food. Period! Comes highly recommended.

Check them out!

Happy eating!
