Seeing fog amidst the backdrop of nature is one of the most beautiful natural sceneries that we can enjoy. In a place north of Tokyo, fog combines with nighttime city lights to create a truly jaw-dropping spectacle.
Take the case of the Chichibu region, north of Tokyo, at the west end of Saitama Prefecture. It is a popular day-trip destination and only takes two and a half hours to reach by train. It has majestic mountains, relaxing hot springs and lush forests. It is also here that a phenomenon called unkai or “sea of clouds” occur, reports RocketNews24.
Unkai is a kind of atmospheric phenomenon wherein cloud cover becomes so thick and rolling that it appears to be an undulating body of water.
One of the better vantage points from which to enjoy the spectacle is at the nearby Minoyama Park. It is here that photography enthusiast Kazuki Sato set up his camera to capture the wonderful photos that he shared in Twitter.
The subtle blending of colors make the scenery seem like a work of art. One could even say it bears resemblance to a Makoto Shinkai anime.
Other photographers also snap photos of the sight which they promptly upload to their respective social media accounts.
According to the Minoyama Park website, unkai is best seen between the months of November and April. Coincidentally, cherry blossom trees start blooming by mid-April. The trees with its pink blooms could possibly add more hues to the sea of clouds. Alfred Bayle/JB
