To be honest, with all the shocking news that we receive here and around the world on a daily basis, I’m not surprised that Congress approved a proposal to reinstate the death penalty. I actually expected it.
Personally, the thought of it scares me. Should it become a law, it can be a powerful and inhumane one; because of our imperfect justice system, people are bound to be executed for a crime that doesn’t call for capital punishment, or worse, a crime they didn’t commit.
It’s very sad, especially for the poor and innocent citizens, whose voices and truths may not be heard. I think the death penalty leaves everyone defenseless. —CONTRIBUTED
