The first official “Game of Thrones” wines are now on sale, and with them comes the chance for fans to uncork their inner Lannister.
Made by Vintage Wine Estates with help from Bob Cabral (named 2011 Winemaker of the Year by Wine Enthusiast), fans will be able to choose from a Chardonnay, a red blend and what its makers refer to as a “reserve-style” Cabernet Sauvignon.
And while the bottles themselves have been designed and decorated to tie in with the world’s most popular TV show, the wines themselves promise to stand on their own, even when tested by the palates of those that don’t know the difference between the houses of Lannister and Targaryen.
“I’m a huge ‘Game of Thrones’ fan, and these wines capture the complexity of the drama,” said Cabral. “But the wines also have great pedigree. We source grapes from premier vineyard sites and use the finest winemaking techniques to create wines of incredible richness and texture.”
The Chardonnay and the Red Blend (Syrah, Tempranillo and Petite Sirah) are available to buy today for $19.99 (around P1,000) while the $49.99 (around P2,500) 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon-Napa Valley will be available online from March 20 and in selected stores from April. Fans will have plenty of time to stock their cellars before season seven debuts in the summer. JB
