An annual contest that shines the spotlight on innovative and pretty potties is inviting the public to cast their nominations.
If you’ve ever visited a restroom that was nicer than your own apartment, or made you linger a little longer just for the pleasure of it, contest organizer Cintas wants to hear about it for the 16th edition of the annual America’s Best Restroom Contest.
Last year’s winner was the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport, for a renovation project that included original mosaic and art display cases created by local artists, a waiting area that posts flight information, and softer lighting.
A “Doctor Who”-themed cubicle at The Way Station bar in Brooklyn followed close behind, for convincingly replicating the TARDIS transporter with a ceiling that recreates the starry night sky, and colorful murals. The TARDIS bathroom attracts fans from around the world and has been visited by “Doctor Who” stars Matt Smith, Steven Moffat, John Barrowman and Karen Gillan.
The deadline for this year’s contest is July 28. Ten finalists will be announced in the fall of 2017, based on cleanliness, visual appeal, innovation, functionality and unique design. JB
