To reach a strong state of wellness is a lifelong challenge, but the journey can be attained through fun activities and delicious food, ideally while in the company of wonderful friends.
For me, it’s all about proper nutrition, daily exercise and supplementation. To complement my active lifestyle, I also value traditional healing, meditation and prayer to keep a more balanced state of being.
Highest-rated supplements
For nutritional supplements, I rely on Usana, the highest-rated and effective supplements and health care products in the world. As their brand ambassador, I share my personal testimony of how Usana has kept both my hubby Dennis and I feeling younger, healthier and stronger.
It was wonderful to see all the Usana family and top agents at the annual Recognition Dinner held at the Grand Ballroom of Conrad Hotel. With “Old Hollywood” as the theme, guests wore sparkling gowns and feathery hats while enjoying the festivities.
Fitness routine
On the fitness side, dancing Zumba is one of my weekly routines at Manila Polo Club with teacher Robert Nee. My Zbabes dance mates recently joined me at GoWell’s “Zumba for the Family” workout at Kerry Sports at Shangri-La at the Fort.
As the GoWell ambassador, I joined the energetic Zumba class led by Kristie Bonifacio, along with over a hundred participants. We gave away prizes to the mom-child pairs who gave the most energetic performances. A Garmin VivoFit 3 activity tracker was also given away via a digital contest.
GoWell is Sun Life’s health and wellness community that promotes holistic wellness through a fit and active lifestyle, healthy eating, and living a balanced life. Its website, www.gowell.com.ph, offers fitness and wellness content with articles from experts, while community workouts and fitness classes are also offered to its members.
GoWell will be heading to Cebu next to hold a free yoga-run-yoga workout for Cebuanos. Dubbed “Namaste Run,” the unique workout will be led by GoWell ambassadors Bubbles Paraiso and Jaymie Pizarro.
Bubbles, a triathlete and yoga teacher, will facilitate the dynamic stretching and community yoga that will bookend the workout. Jaymie, Sun Life’s Health and Wellness marketing manager who is also known as The Bull Runner, will lead the easy run.

Swimming playground
Swimming is one of the best fitness workouts with the least amount of stress on the muscles; it’s also great for cross-training. Dennis and I have been doing open-water swim training every weekend, as we hope to join more of the SwimJunkie race series of renowned swimmer Betsy Medalla.
Our favorite training playground is Balesin Island. A long swim along the beautiful white sand beachfront gives us views of the fantastic coral and marine life, which can include turtles and stingrays. In Balesin, I also joined a special outdoor Bikram yoga class led by Ollay Aninion and Joy Amano, the nephew of Bikram himself. It was so cool to practice with Ollay and Joy.
From the yoga class, we squeezed in a treatment at Aegle Wellness Center, Alphaland’s venture into the world of true health care, the prevention of disease and the slowing down of aging. Aegle has facilities on Balesin Island and at The City Club in Makati. Both are equipped with top-of-the-line diagnostic equipment.
Aegle is fast becoming the foremost authority on age optimization, detoxification and weight management, by maximizing an individual’s potential for health that’s appropriate for age, and starting the individual on a healthier lifestyle program.
Powerhouse guests
For Mother’s Day last week, we were lucky to be invited on board M/Y Obsessions by Alphaland chair Roberto V. Ongpin. We cruised around his island and were served food from Mykonos Village. RVO was still ecstatic about the inauguration of Mykonos Restaurant last May 9 at The City Club.
The by-invitation dinner featured a powerhouse guest list, among them US Ambassador Sung Kim, former Vice President Jejomar Binay, Makati City Mayor Abby Binay, Senator Sonny Angara, Senator Chiz Escudero along with his beautiful wife Heart Evangelista, former Senator Bongbong Marcos, SMIC vice chair Teresita Sy-Coson, San Miguel Corp. CEO Ramon Ang, and Philippine Airlines head Jimmy Bautista.
Mykonos at The City Club features a menu similar to that of Thanasis Taverna in Balesin. The original menus were created by Greek chef Thanasis Koumpiadis, from the island of Rhodes. Among the best sellers are grilled lamb ribs, roast leg of lamb and other Greek favorites such as saganaki, moussaka and souvlaki.

In closing, I would like to congratulate Nova Veluz for her involvement in the Original Ugat Lucena Association. OULA has evolved from being a small club into a large, active and vibrant organization that has become a significant part of the Lucena City community in Quezon province.
OULA focuses on socio-civic projects that benefit the residents of the city, especially the less-privileged members of society. This year, OULA will have its annual Benefit Ball, the proceeds of which will go to public schools in Lucena. Check out their Facebook page for more information.
