Pianist Hiyas Hila to perform with PPO

Pianist Hiyas A. Hila is the featured soloist in the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra’s (PPO) matinee concert on June 11, 4 p.m. at the Cultural Center of the Philippines main theater. She will render Mozart’s Piano Concerto No.23 in A Major (K.488).

Yoshikazu Fukumura, PPO music director and principal conductor, will conduct. All-Mozart works make up the program.
The PPO has just successfully concluded its first concert season under the stewardship of Fukumura. He has earned the plaudit “dynamic conductor” and the respect and admiration of Manila’s music-lovers.

Hila is hailed for “mastery of the keyboard.” She performs regularly as a solo, orchestral and chamber-music artist. She has been featured in concerts in the United States, Spain and the Philippines.

She earned her Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Piano Performance from University of Minnesota School of Music, with Lydia Artymiw as her teacher; and her Bachelor and Master of Music degrees in Piano Performance, with Mack McCray as her mentor, from San Francisco Conservatory of Music.

Yoshikazu Fukumura

Hila teaches piano, chamber music and piano ensemble at East Bay Center for the Performing Arts in Richmond, California, and at Saint Brigid Catholic School in San Francisco, California.

She previously taught applied piano and class piano at University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. —CONTRIBUTED
