While air travel has brought a world of convenience for long trips, there are still some pains that come with it.
United Kingdom business partners Will Ford and Felix Kenchington identified that one of the struggles that come with travel is luggage. Both are frequent travelers, and working together, channeled their frustrations into creating one that could answer every traveler’s luggage woes.
The two men designed the Arcido (pronounced ar-kee-doh) bag with every part of a trip in mind, “from packing, to airport security and beyond.”
“The concept was to design a bag for those who don’t want their gear to hold their travel experience back,” they say in their Kickstarter page.
Their design resonated with many other travelers: the company hit their crowdfunding target within three hours, racking up to £40,479 (around P2.6 million).
The bag’s size complies with airline standards and looks like your ordinary work backpack. However, a look inside the stylish bag can tell you why several bought into it.
It has enough space for clothes, personal items and a laptop.
While other bags can boast about multiple features, this bag has one that could top them all: a detachable laptop compartment. This appears to answer the hassle of going through airline security and removing your laptop during an inspection. It also makes the laptop easily accessible if you need it at the airport.
The Arcido bag also puts importance on organization. It has a number of pockets for valuables and other travel needs. For instance, a special secure pocket is designed at the back of the bag so one can easily access one’s passport and boarding pass, and just as easily stick it back. A specially designed RFID secure document holder also comes with the bag so that you can put your passports, boarding pass, and necessary cards in one place.
To ensure durability, the bag is made with waterproof canvas and sturdy, weatherproof double zippers. Versatility was also taken into account: not all travelers like a backpack, so by adding or removing straps, one can change the bag into a messenger bag or a simple carry-on.
The bag took six months of development, and the company assures consumers that their manufacturer meets high standards and has “fair working conditions.” They guarantee that the Arcido is strong enough to serve customers for five years.
The bag now sells for £160 (P10,350) on their website, and while the price seems hefty, it still competes within the price range of travel bags. At the very least, it saves on the extra luggage cost one would pay an airline. Reviewers, such as Youtube user iTechriot, dubbed it “the only backpack you’ll need” and recommend it for “short to medium trips.”
