There’s truth to the old saying “you never forget your first”: from your first love, first kiss and first heartbreak, to the first time you stepped into college and your very first day on a job, these milestones are etched in your memory forever.

Among life’s many “firsts” is the thrill of owning your very first mobile phone. Remember how you excitedly unwrapped it from its box, gently cradled it in your hands, and admired and sampled it a bit before charging it? Sure, you’ve owned numerous cell phones since, but you can never forget your first.

The Vivo V5 Lite makes the perfect first smart phone. Priced at P9,900, it’s a user-friendly gadget built with quality features one might expect from a brand like Vivo. I used the V5 Lite for a month and here’s what I experienced:

The Vivo V5 Lite

Sleek, beautiful and elegant-looking in either crown gold or rose gold color options, the metal phone has a 5.5-inch touchscreen display (sorry, no fingerprint sensor on this model) that showcased clear photos and videos thanks to its 720 x 1280 pixel resolution.

It runs on Funtouch OS 3.0 software on top of Android Marshmallow, and boasts a 1.5GHz MT6750 octa-core processor along with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage, expandable up to 256GB. Saving your many selfies and videos is not a problem.

The 3000mAh battery means you can go a day without charging the phone. Enjoy a smooth and decent gaming experience for hours on end with the V5 Lite.

The V5 Lite may be one of Vivo’s simpler models, but it certainly lives up to the brand’s reputation as “the perfect selfie phone.” The 13-MP rear camera comes with autofocus and a LED flash, while a 16-MP front-facing camera has a softlight flash, ensuring your selfies are illuminated even in the dark. In low light, I expected a poor quality to my shots; surprisingly, they came out better than I thought. And check out the results of our fashion photo shoot with model, Daisha Jimenez.

If anything, the V5 Lite can get you used to the basic features of a smart phone. And though technology’s fast pace will have you graduating to more high-tech gadgets in the years to come, you will certainly remember the first one that got you started.
