Do you have an INCH (I’m Never Coming Home) bag? Do you even know what an INCH bag is for? How prepared are you for an emergency or disaster?
In the event of the Big One, for instance, you’ll most likely need more than just a “go” bag. You’ll need an INCH bag—a large survival kit critical to sustaining your survival for some days.
Learn all these and other survival skills at the 1st Tactical and Survival Expo (TACS Expo), a safety, security and survival show for sustainable living, ongoing until today, June 4, at SM Megatrade Halls 1-3, SM Megamall, Mandaluyong City.
Presented by Armscor Global Defense Inc., TACS Expo, aside from showcasing armory and ammunition, gathers under one roof all things related to preparedness, survival, security, safety and sustainability. Seminars and workshops are being held on hand-to-hand combat, Filipino martial arts, how to build a survival kit, things you need to know about survival nutrition and more.
An activity center allows visitors to try out their survival skills with numerous experiential activities like how to use the lasso, slingshot or axe. Nongovermantal organizations booths also demonstrate their capacity to react during a disaster.
Learning experience
“It’s a tactical and survival expo everyone must attend,” said Gina Marie G. Angangco, SEVP and deputy CEO, Armscor Global Defense Inc. “During disasters, we have to help ourselves first before expecting the government to help us. Do you know what to do, for example, when the rolling stops during an earthquake?”
The expo showcases survival technology, gear and preparation equipment, traditional weapons, firearms and accessories. It’s also a learning experience for the family as it demonstrates that basic preparedness—not only for natural disasters but also for political upheavals, public disorders, crime and home invasions—is not difficult to achieve.
“The show focuses on self-reliance, how to make the most of dwindling basic resources, and how to prepare for, and deal with, emergency and life-threatening situations,” said Martin Tuason, Armscor president.
The Filipino Inventors Society Inc., meanwhile, is showcasing locally made water purifiers, jackhammers that do not need electricity, boats that do not capsize and more.
“In a disaster, there may not be an opportunity to import what we need. Resources have to be in the country,” Angangco said.
You’re on your own
Also, during disasters, people should not be technology-dependent.
“You’ll be on Yoyo (You’re On Your Own) mode,” said Capt. Joebert Tolentino of the Disaster and Emergency Responders International. “Roads will be blocked, so even if there’s a rescue team, they might not be able to penetrate into your area. You must be able to survive for at least three days. We can show you how to use your daily materials to survive during a disaster.”
Register online or onsite for free admission. A registration link can be found on the Armscor Facebook page. Unregistered visitors will be charged a P200 entrance fee.
