Screen wonders

‘Super Friends’ (1973)

Gal Gadot may be the first to play Wonder Woman in a live-action feature film, but most people will have watched the Amazon princess on television first. Here are the three versions of Wonder Woman you’d mostly have first encountered:

‘Super Friends’ (1973)

This is the classic animated Wonder Woman as seen in the Hanna-Barbera cartoon, designed by comic great Alex Toth and voiced by Shannon Farnon. This is how we saw elements like the Invisible Plane and the Lasso of Truth at work.

‘Wonder Woman’ (1975)

This iconic live-action TV series, which ran for three seasons on ABC and CBS, was perfect for the 1970s, featuring a fabulous Lynda Carter in the title role, complete with the distinctive spinning transformation sequence and different outfits for different missions.

‘Justice League’ (2001)

The modern animated iteration of Wonder Woman, voiced by Susan Eisenberg and aired on Cartoon Network, presents an Amazon princess that’s truly powerful and very similar to the current screen version. —Ruel S. De Vera
