It’s never too late to take charge of your health. This was the message of one of the country’s hottest “fitspirations,” Raymond Gutierrez—who recently lost 65 pounds of excess weight through diet and exercise—at the launch of Philam Life’s “Live Better” campaign.

The campaign aims to encourage Filipinos to take control of their overall health so that they can live longer, healthier and better. To kick off the campaign, Philam Life’s “Live Better” campaign goes to TriNoma Activity Center on June 24-25.

Learn more about how you can improve your life through food, fitness, wellness and finance. Various wellness booths will be set up where you can consult with experts and get tips, tricks and even treats from Philam partners and brand ambassadors Solenn Heussaff and husband Nico Bolzico, Wil Dasovich, and Gutierrez. Joining them are athletes Alyssa Valdez and Mika Reyes.

“Wellness doesn’t have to be complicated … The campaign is not just about brand repositioning, it’s about making lifestyle changes,” said Tim Marriott, chief marketing officer of Philam Life.

Marriott referred to a 2016 Healthy Living Index that showed Filipinos’ behavior and perception toward health—that while Filipinos have high self-awareness when it comes to improving their health, many lack the motivation to change their lifestyle.

There are four factors, Marriott said, that hindered Filipinos’ journey to wellness: drinking too much, smoking, not exercising and not eating healthy.

This is where Philam Life’s “Live Better” campaign steps in.

Vitality Program

“At the core of ‘Live Better’ is the Vitality Program, a holistic program that helps Filipinos live better by letting them take charge of their mind and body, as well as their financial wellness. In the long term, it seeks to help Filipinos live life to the fullest by helping them take charge of their overall wellness,” Marriott said.

The Vitality Program, a wellness program that comes with every Philam Life plan (or purchased separately if you already have an existing plan), gives out rewards as you go on your wellness journey. It also has an app called the Philam Vitality Active for the iOS and Android, where you can walk and win exciting prizes, for example.

“Wellness is an everyday commitment. If you live well, you sleep well; you sleep well, you work better; you work better, you’re successful, and when you’re successful, you’re happier. So everything kind of works together,” Heussaff said.

Heussaff added that she eats slowly, from small plates at home to trick her mind into thinking that she’s eating a full serving and drinks a lot of water. She hasn’t eaten white rice in five years, doesn’t consume unnatural sugars and eats everything in moderation.

“I love bread, so sometimes I eat a slice—not a loaf,” she said.

Gutierrez stays away from carbs as much as possible. He has removed beef and pork from his diet and is now content eating chicken, fish, fruits and vegetables. A former night person, he now wakes up at 6 a.m. to start working out, surrounding himself with like-minded people like Heussaff, to keep him motivated to stay fit and healthy.

The 6’1” host/entrepreneur has inspired his entire family to work out as well, he said.

“I always look up to Chard (Richard, his twin). He has always been the sporty one. We’ve always been close, but now we can work out together. My sister Ruffa now works out everyday and my mom just bought sneakers. That’s the first step,” he said, laughing.
