Some schools have just ended their classes, so a lot of students are just about to start their summer break. This means kids can experiment with their looks—no school officials to reprimand them for sporting the wrong hairdo.
To be You grabbed the moment by partnering with Bench Barbers to give three students a free summer-break makeover.
Hairstylist Vince Movillon said he didn’t go for a “generic” pompadour. Instead he opted to customize, depending on the person’s complexion, bone structure and head shape.
He also played around with each cut. The result: fresh, unique takes on the pompadour that highlighted each guy’s personality.
Each session took only about 15 minutes, but there was no shortcut to quality and detail. Use pomade or molding clay to maintain the style.
Bench Barbers has a student-friendly price of P350 for a cut. Whether you’re on a school break or not, try out these three styles:
Slicked-back with shaved line
Slicked-back hair remains one of the most popular hair trends, thanks to celebrities like David Beckham, who famously sports the cut.
Movillon recommended it to Adlai Sayson, a student with medium-length hair. One could easily brush hair up and have the sides clean-shaven. For character, add a clean-shaved line.
Soft pompadour
Another popular trend, the soft pompadour, is easy to pull off and suits different face shapes and hair types. It’s probably the most basic of styles, but it doesn’t mean it’s boring, since a seasoned hairstylist can create different variations.
For student Julian Reantaso, Movillon kept the length of the hair at the top—for an easy brush-up—and shaved the sides and the back. Though he didn’t skin-fade the sides, he did leave a nice, classic finish—which makes it a perfect back-to-school ’do as well.
Semi-pomp pompadour with faded sides
On student Alfonso Gaite, Movillon opted to make this look more playful, injecting an edgy element into a classic hairstyle. He gave the sides two types of fades and finished with skin-fade lines. Hair spray was applied for styling and volume. If you’re adventurous, this is the cut for you.
Bench Barbers is at Level 2, Glorietta 4, Ayala Center, Makati.
