This 2017, Alessi unveils a brand new line of stylish designer objets d’art for its spring and summer collection, featuring poetic pieces that are sure to inspire.
The collection begins with the outlandish Forma cheese grater by the late Zaha Hadid, the first woman to receive the 2004 Pritzker Architecture Prize. Deemed her last project with inspirations from nature, the Forma is a stainless steel piece with an easy grip and asymmetrical holes for even grating. Placed on its stand, the Forma is altogether an exquisite sculpture with a lasting impact.
The Alessi catalogue also features the “objet-bijoux” collection. Adam Goodrum reminisces on his childhood in Australia to come up with Roost, a double egg cup that won the 2015 Alessi Design Prize. Composed of two pieces that seamlessly join together, the Roost features three internal curves that cradle the egg, the perfect nesting place for your breakfast staple. Tudelft-Titus Wybenga marries a classic timepiece with your daily tea to create the T-Timepiece. Designed at the Delft University of Technology in 2014, it is th modern day tea infuser housed in the design of an old pocket watch. Vabene by Miriam Mirri is a stainless steel pasta tester that looks like a musical instrument. From the streets of Tokyo, Valerio Sommella designs the Boga, a steel ginger grater. Influenced by the ancient practice of dowsing, the Virgula Divina by Frédéric Gooris is a Y-shaped bottle opener with curvatures that allow for a comfortable handling.
Moving further towards modernization, two new plastic objects are added to the Alessi catalogue. Enhance your taste buds with the Pizzico silicone salt castor by Busetti, Garuti, and Redaelli. Its malleable shape imitates the act of adding a pinch of salt, while keeping things sanitary. Gabriele Rosa presents Twisted, a thermoplastic resin measuring jug. With its spiral graduated shape, the novel design requires the measurements to be viewed from above.
Spal by Giulio Iacchetti is a touch different than the rest in the Alessi collection. The use of titanium, which is lighter than stainless steel, makes for lower thermal conductivity––ideal for an ice cream scoop.
The extravagant Giro cutlery set by Ben Van Berkel expands the Alessi cutlery catalogue. The Giro presents the architectural twist, capturing the transformation from handle to blade. Made with stainless steel mirror polished, the ergonomics of the Giro set balances the lift and the hold for each utensil. Introduced as two new tipologies to the cutlery set, Doriana E Massimiliano Fuksas adds a playful dramatic touch to your table with the Colombina Fish salt cellar and oyster knife.
The Nomu drinkwares feature double-walled stainless steel and thermoplastic resin; two pieces of which are designed by Naoto Fukasawa. The thermo insulated jug is perfect for dining at home, while the vacuum flask is fitting for outdoor settings. A unique whimsical piece joins the collection with the Water Tower by Daniel Libeskind. A stainless steel container with a stand, it is an urban architectural tribute to the Milanese architect, Aldo Rossi.
For a transformable interactive container mimicking the movements of a dancer in motion, Sakura Adachi designs the Lovely Breeze. Conceptual craftsmanship at its best, the rocking bowl features a hemisphere weight to keep it upright, but when filled with food items, the Lovely Breeze lies horizontal on the table, righting itself vertically when emptied.
With Mami 3.0, Stefano Giovannoni revolutionizes the Mami series that began in 1999. From stockpots and casseroles to grill pans and frying pans, the Mami 3.0 comes equipped with a magnetic steel bottom for induction stove. It’s an extravagant cooking experience for the gourmet master chef.
The Pulcina by Michele de Lucchi features an espresso coffee maker with a double funnel-shaped filter for classic espresso coffee and filter coffee. With a vibrant red handle and knob, the aluminium casting and magnetic steel bottom allows for induction cooking. Break new ground with the Pulcina for mornings made all the more excellent.
Stirred by the trees surrounding the hills of Luca, Michel Boucqillon and Donia Maaoui create Bark. The unconventional designs of the paper roll holder echo the origins of paper from trees while the flower vase mimes the look of a tree trunk with wildflowers. The bottle rack presents an intricate form and intersecting pattern, apt for aged opulent wine.
Michele de Lucchi’s Raggiante bamboo wall clock imitates the rays of the sun that are sure to shine anywhere in the world, while Adam Cornish designs a wall clock called Arris with single fold surface to express the continuity of time. As day turns to night, the light refracts on the stainless steel, undulated surface, resulting in the interplay of shadows and light.
