UST to host international conference on Levinas

The University of Santo Tomas Department of Philosophy will host the International Conference on the Philosophy of Emmanuel Levinas on July 13-15.

To be convened by Leovino Ma. Garcia, the conference’s theme is “On Sociopolitical Responsibility and Beyond.”

Highlights of the conference are three plenary lectures by Roger Burggraeve, a renowned scholar from the Catholic University of Leuven, Belgium.

Other papers by top scholars will be read in parallel sessions.

Levinas (1906-1995) was a French-Jewish-Lithuanian thinker; he was known for his philosophy of reaching out. He claimed that ethics is the first philosophy.
