K-drama cosplay as joyful Ji Eun Tak

We couldn’t wait for a Goblin to show up (because, really, nobody holds a candle to the gorgeous Gong Yoo—get it?) so we copped the looks of his bride Ji Eun Tak and proceeded with our latest obsession: budget K-drama cosplay.

Yes, it’s now a thing to dress up as Koreanovela characters. Case in point: the latest wave of prenup photography that had couples imitating iconic images of Kim Shin and Eun Tak together.

On the show, the actress Kim Go Eun wears designer threads, but in this DIY we promise that there’s nothing exorbitantly priced. Unless you count the price of putting on layer upon layer of clothes in the sweltering heat, all for the love of “Guardian: The Lonely and Great God,” a brilliant series that had us swooning over not just the guys but also the very chic styles of their ladyloves.

Eun Tak’s wardrobe, in particular, sets the style bar high: Here’s a major female K-drama character who doesn’t bare skin or go for fashion frills. Instead, she wears plenty of neutrals in masculine silhouettes.

The fresh-faced Eun Tak balances the androgyny through smart layering, soft textures and touches of whimsical hues—it almost seems to reflect the journey of her relationship with the Guardian, don’t you think?

“Goblin” fashions are designed for autumn and winter. However, key items in Eun Tak’s wardrobe can be worn separately or as slightly altered ensembles to suit the tropics and more so when the monsoon season goes full swing.

Now, how to begin?

Tip No. 1—Gather friends who can help pool Eun Tak-inspired pieces from their closets for your photoshoot. They can also be the “guardians” who’ll support you and even fend off those who make fun of your (winter) K-style aspirations.

Tip No. 2—For the model wannabes, never lose the shining-bright smile no matter the sweat on your back during the shoot because it just happens to be the Goblin bride’s best accessory.
