Use dreams to solve problems

What are dreams?

According to Wikipedia: “A dream is a succession of images, ideas, emotions and sensations that usually occur involuntarily in the mind during certain stages of sleep.”

Dreams have been recorded as early as 5,000 years ago in a clay tablet found in Mesopotamia.

In ancient Greek and Roman periods, people believed that dreams were direct messages from the gods. They also believed that dreams tell of future events.

Today the average person dismisses dreams as nothing more than a product of one’s imagination and does not give it much attention or
importance.

Freudian

It was Sigmund Freud, founder of psychoanalysis, who first studied dreams extensively and said they represented a person’s deepest desires and emotions which had been suppressed.

He developed methods or techniques to uncover or release them, but his pansexualistic theory of dreams did not go well with other psychologists, notably Carl Jung, and the two eventually parted ways.

Most dreams are mere reflections of the day’s events in the life of an individual. Only a few of them are of significance to him. But some dream experts claim that every dream is important and has deeper meaning, if we only have the patience to analyze them. According to one definition, a dream is “the language of our subconscious mind,” which usually “talks” to us in symbols so there’s a need to interpret them.

Practical side

But there’s a practical side to dreams that most people do not realize. We can actually use dreams to solve problems that we may be struggling with.

Some very important scientific discoveries and great literature were a product of dreams. Examples of these are the discovery of the molecular formula for benzene, the development of the sewing machine and the writing of the great poem “Kubla Khan.” They were all the direct results of dreams.

On a more mundane matter, we can also summon a dream to solve personal problems. We can ask our subconscious mind to give us a dream that will solve a problem we have in mind. We can do this by repeating that request a number of times before going to sleep.

Our subconscious, which is always listening to us, may oblige and provide us a dream that will contain such a solution.

Repetition necessary

This method has to be done a number of times before it takes effect because the subconscious mind listens only if we repeat things over and over again to show we are serious. You can’t just give the instruction once and forget it. Your subconscious mind will also forget it.

Dreams can refer either to past, present or future events. It can even be about a person’s past lives, even if he or she does not believe in reincarnation.

We should never ignore a dream because they seem nonsensical or absurd to us during our waking state. All dreams have a purpose. Otherwise, they will not occur at all.
