The Dalmore flagship store in Taguig City has been selected by the judges of the Society of British and International Design (SBID) as one of 16 retail design finalists from around the world for this year’s SBID International Design Award.
Principal designer Maja Olivares-Co for Sonia Santiago Olivares & Associates, the Dalmore flagship store at Uptown Parade is the first of its kind in the world. The design team wanted to create a genteel retail and tasting space. The result is a jewel box of a store, all wood paneling, shiny glass and beveled steel.
The Constellation Collection, a display showcase of 21 bottles mounted on the wall, greets customers. Valued at P18 million, the rare set (there are only five existing sets worldwide, last year there were 17) is an assemblage of natural cask-strength whiskeys from 1964 to 1992. In shades that range from a light, wheat-like tint to a rich, dark sherry, the Constellation is also a guide to how the different types of casks used provide color as well as flavor to the whisky.
The bottle storage room dubbed the Keeper’s Den recalls a gentleman’s club but made contemporary with colors like copper, amber and rich brown. Details from cut-crystal glass complete the theme.
Maja Olivares-Co is the principal designer for Sonia Santiago and Associates.
