Cast the rainy-day gloom away by adding new life to your everyday setting at home. A metallic modern look can certainly do the trick to bring one’s style up to date, and it can cost next to nothing.

This is a great activity when you’re stuck at home during a rainstorm, or when you simply have time on your hands.

Use wrapping paper which you probably have or can purchase easily in any book or school-supply store. The transformation can be impressive.

Aside from wrapping paper, you’ll need:

Glass vase
Adhesive tape
Scissors
Measuring tape
Clothes iron (optional)

For the vase:
Measure the vase and cut the wrapping paper to size.
Using adhesive tape, fix in place.

For the placemat:
Measure the size of a regular placemat—in this case, 16 x 12 inches.

Cut the paper to size.

Optional: Using a clothes iron on medium heat, iron the paper on its underside if it keeps rolling.

It’s a modern, updated look for your vignette.
