Bold, shoulder-grazing statement earrings are making a major comeback—the kind that makes heads turn and goads the curious to ask where to get them. Like a slick of red lipstick, they’ve become the finishing touch for the perfect selfie.

We’ve seen so many inspiring variations of this jewelry trend of late. Popular are the long, fringe styles that barely kiss, or even go past, the shoulders. Some are large hoops adorned with pompoms and whatnot, while others are more geometric and sculptural in shape.

For the daring, there are also solitary dangling styles so offbeat the quirkiness alone makes them a standout. The materials are so varied.

There are also minimalist and relatively more conservative looks—say, flimsy, longish strands of silver or gold, or a long row of small beads, for instance (Rihanna wore a sample of the latter in a recent red-carpet appearance in Paris).

And there are the seriously elevated, conversation pieces, like that mismatched Marni pair Ivanka Trump wore to a Berlin gala in April. We’ve seen similar levels of outré from the runways, like JW Anderson’s, for one.

The high street brands and even independent local designers have been quick to catch up, so there’s plenty of affordable options in the market.

We asked some stylish women for tips on how to pull off this statement-making trend. Here are ways you can cop the look.

I gravitate toward unique use of material and an interesting shape or design. I usually let the earrings be the focal point of my look, so I tend to wear something solid or black-and-white. The earrings add a nice pop of color. —Peewee Reyes-Isidro, editor in chief, Mega Magazine

I would go for a pared-down outfit with a low neckline to highlight earrings that are already eye-catching. —Carmencita Sioson, PR and digital marketing manager, Stores Specialists Inc.

Play with statement accessories to transform your look effortlessly. On all my travels, I am always on the lookout for fun finds and unique accessories, which I collect for my private trunk shows at home. It has a lot to do with how you carry them. Sometimes I wear the craziest earrings—among my faves are a dangling bunch of mandarin oranges, a pair of cherries and loops with giant pompoms. Just wear them with confidence and a fun attitude. And people always love them! —Mia Borromeo, editor at large, Philippine Tatler Traveler

Statement earrings are a trend that adds instant charm to any outfit. It can be worn casual or dressy. I love my Mercedes Salazar hoop earrings made in Colombia. LCP carries a lot of playful and buoyant costume jewelry often using artisanal techniques from different communities. This statement accessory is more than an earring, it has a beautiful legacy behind it. —Carole Tagle, fashion and beauty editor, Town & Country magazine

I would wear a monochromatic ensemble and accentuate it with statement earrings. It’s like the cherry on top of my overall look. To highlight my striking earrings, I also like to keep my face bare or put on natural makeup. —Jeanger Navarro, events and promotions manager, Stores Specialists Inc.

I love wearing long earrings, whether my hair is short, long, pulled up into a pony or worn loose. They add an interesting twist to my daily attire. My outfits are mostly in basic colors and it is always either the shoes or the earrings that come in bright colors. Lately, I am drawn to floral pieces, like those created by Ken Samudio’s Matthew and Melka, and Anika. Anika upcycles fabric scraps and turns them into beautiful pairs. I also like those made by Beachin’ Out (@beachinout). My tip would be to keep your top simple as to not distract from the beauty of the pair. —Ruby Gan, VP marketing, Bridgestone Tires PH; owner, ShopManila Inc.; founder, Kickass Manila Sports & Fitness Expo
