Chamber music concert slated Aug. 10 at Ayala Museum

Trio de Capo pianist Gabriel Allan Ferros Paguirigan, cellist Joseph Emmanuel Hernandez and violinist Marian Antonette Mayuga are all set for the concert.

The intimate gratification of chamber music will be savored anew when a musical group called Trio de Capo performs at Ayala Museum on Thursday, Aug. 10.

Heading the group is pianist Gabriel Allan Ferros Paguirigan, First Prize winner of the National Musical Youth Competitions (Namcya); the Piano Teachers Guild of the Philippines Beethoven Piano Competition for the Etude; and Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra Concerto Piano Competition.

Violinist Marian Antonette Mayuga has just graduated magna cum laude from University of the Philippines Diliman. She won prizes in the 2005 and 2015 Namcya. She has played principal second violinist, concert master and soloist of the Predis Orchestra.

Cellist Joseph Emmanuel Hernandez is studying at UP Diliman under Eduardo Pasamba. He has attended masterclasses of Verena Sankalp (Trio Chamber d’Ecoute); Jean-Philippe Martignoni (Paris String Quartet); Pei Sian Ng (principal cellist of Singapore Symphony Orchestra).

Said Paguirigan: “Chamber music has always given me a different kind of joy, excitement and fulfillment. I hope young musicians explore the chamber-music repertoire more and experience the same in playing with other musicians.”

The trio got its name from the Italian musical term da capo, which literally means “from the head.” It is a directive typically found at the end of a section to repeat from the beginning.

The trio has lined up a unique program featuring Brahms’ Piano Trio No. 1; the premiere of Jed Balsamo’s first piano trio; and the neo-tango music of Astor Piazolla.

The B Major Trio is considered Brahms’ most unabashedly Romantic creation, revealing, according to Richard Specht’s voluptuous description, “the whole 20-year-old composer with all his inner stress, his fullness of heart, his ardent longing; all the apprehension, pride, restraint and expectation of a soul in flower.”

The Aug. 10 concert is made possible through grants from Lyric Piano and DZFE.FM The Master’s Touch. —CONTRIBUTED
