Singer Troye Sivan’s signature style shows that there’s more to streetwear than white kicks and millennial pink.

The 22-year-old YouTube superstar is the poster boy for SMYTH, SM Store’s new sub-line for young men.

SMYTH is the evolution of the SM Youth brand—stylized without the vowels; the collection curated by Preview Magazine fashion director Daryl Chang was recently launched at SM Makati.

According to merchandise manager Brian Chua, SMYTH follows the South Californian style aesthetic: fun, fresh and playful. “We have observed that the Filipino youth are already experimental with what they wear, and we want to enable them to achieve their fashion goals through SMYTH.”

Fruits and flamingos

SMYTH has two lines: basic and trendy.

Basics are toned-down classics. These are denims in dark wash and light blue, available in semi-skinny jeans and bomber jackets. Also on the rack are everyday black and khaki pants, and crisp white shirts. Some pieces come with extras such as cuffed hems, zippers, frays and fancy buttons.

The trendy line follows pop-art prints.

Shirts with botanical prints spell yearlong summer: palm trees, fronds, islands and sunflowers.

Shirts with tropical patterns feature yellow and pink bananas, pineapples and flamingos. One can mix and match these with the basics, or layer them with a long-sleeved jacket in stripes or camo—as shown on Sivan’s campaign shots.

For a sleek style, follow Sivan’s combination of pinstripe pants and floral shirt, but make sure to keep both in one color such as navy.

SMYTH is all about comfortable and affordable dressing, and girls can wear the clothes, too, “as long as they are feeling good about it,” Chua added.

His style tips: “Play with silhouette when layering. Don’t be afraid to mix prints, patterns and colors. Trust in SMYTH pieces, because we made sure any shirt would go with any jacket.”
