This local furniture label is a modernist’s dream

Nix Alanon with his Phoenix Home team

Phoenix Home is one of those local furniture labels that I look out for. The creative mind behind the brand, interior designer Nix Alañon, has a meticulous flair for the vibrant and luxurious.

The latest Phoenix Home collection is a showcase of contrasting muted colors and warm, lively accents. I’m especially drawn to the use of gray and other matte neutrals.

Despite sporting a subtler palette, the furniture sets the scene and provides a great contrast to the textural conversation pieces.

There’s an edgy coffee table with five legs, a golden metal piece hanging on the wall, and a sleek, wooden floor lamp.

Everything is a modernist’s dream, an eclectic mix of possibilities and aesthetics.

Curious about how such beauty is crafted, I caught up with Alañon recently.

What’s your aesthetic?

I would say I have a global design aesthetic, and I always aim to achieve a timeless look in my designs. I love contrasts— combining different finish
textures, or objects of different materials or from different eras.

What’s your design process?

It usually starts from an idea that I am currently fixated on. This can be a color or a color combination, a form or shape that I find interesting. I use it as a base and make the rest of my design elements work around that idea.

Who’s your dream client?

Giovanna Battaglia. I don’t know what her home looks like, but if it’s any close to how she dresses up, then we’re up for some good fun!

Who’s your favorite interior decorator?

At present, I am into the works of Jean Louis Denoit. I love his refined style, controlled choice of colors, and symmetry in his works. Also Nate Berkus for establishing himself as a brand, and the organic approach in his designs—both for the interiors and the products he creates.

What inspires you?

Travel is my ultimate source of inspiration. It gives me a fresh outlook.
