‘I love Pares,’ ‘Sew What!’ and ‘ipis’ be with you

Your mantra for the week: “I’m living my bliss and abundance always follows.”

You are a child of God and you have all Its qualities. But for centuries, many people have forgotten this. And so today, I am happy to remind you about it.

You are on this level of experience for a purpose. It is for you to live your bliss and benefit others whose lives you will touch. Know that you are also here to learn, to love and to let go when the time comes to make room for the new.

Life is a series of ups and downs, but the key is you must make the downs as few as possible. This can be done only through an awareness of the Presence of God within you.

Tend to your body—it is the temple of the Living Spirit. It is important to keep it whole and healthy because it determines how much of the ups you will have in your life.

Take care of your prosperity and your wealth—they add to the quality of enjoyment that you will have in your life. When there is lack, you struggle and when you are struggling, there is more stress and anxiety.

Harmonious relationships bring you up, disharmony brings you down. How is your relationship with yourself? Are you down on you or are you happy with you?

Make peace with yourself now, for only when you make peace with yourself can you be an instrument of peace among others.

When you feel you are not succeeding in your profession and goals, ask the Presence within you to express through you and you will find opportunities knocking at your door.

Remember, most of all, that your greatest gift from the universe is your Life. Your obligation is to enjoy the journey to the hilt and this is only made possible when you live a fulfilled and meaningful life through the expression of your talents and abilities, which would then be your gift to the universe.

Manette Agbayani’s birthday

Manette Agbayani, Mav Rufino, Miguel Realmonte

Last Wednesday, lawyer Manette Agbayani celebrated her birthday at The Last Chukker in Manila Polo Club owned by food connoisseur Conrad Calalang.

There were 10 different dishes including baby calamares, pizza, pasta, steak, lapu-lapu, blue marlin, chicken and three birthday cakes to boot.

Manette was stunning in red as she welcomed guests like Mav Rufino, who was escorted by su novio, the Argentinean diplomat Miguel Realmonte; the glamorous Virginia Lane who works from morning ’til night, moving and storing things around for her company Asian Tiger Philippines; visiting New Yorker and London-based Mark Macaraeg, who sees a lot of Sandie Poblador in the world where Princess Diana made royal history; Anna Sia, another restaurateur of Poké Poké; Cory Quirino who was honored recently by Zen Institute in two separate birthday parties; dance diva Becky Garcia and my tukayo George Sarakinis.

Down-to-earth genius

Phyllis Zaballero, Toto Olivera

My high school best friend Dr. Baldomero “Toto” Olivera came to town and hosted his customary dinner with friends before going to other parts of the country with a Roman scientist, Marco Oliverio, in search of new cone snails and mollusks.

Toto was our class valedictorian and graduated summa cum laude in Biochemistry with an average of 1.0025.

I also visited with him in California Institute of Technology at the time when he discovered and characterized E. coli DNA Ligase, a key enzyme of genetic engineering and recombinant DNA technology.

In 2007, the title Harvard Scientist of the Year was bestowed on him for his discovery of toxins from cone snails that can be found only in the Philippines. Through this research, the world will soon have a new product for pain control to end all painkillers.

More pun in PH

As a genius, Toto has remained truly down to earth, so much so that he even observed, while traipsing around small towns in the Philippines, eating places that reminded him of me and my puns. He said he saw a kiosk called “I love Pares,” as well as a tailoring shop, “Sew What!”

My favorite is a restaurant in Quezon City called “Pizza ng Ina Mo, Ina Ko at Ina Nating Lahat.”

Key-yan for justice

President Rodrigo Duterte; Kian Loyd de los Santos

I rejoice in President Rodrigo Duterte’s decision to abide by the rule of law in the case of Kian de los Santos’ death. Based on the aberrant behavior of the policemen, as seen on security cameras, they looked like they were the ones who were on drugs as they dragged a boy of 17 to his death.

According to witnesses, Kian never resisted arrest. Others say he was pleading with the cops because he had a test in school the following day. I trust the full force of the law will be used against those responsible for the killing of Kian—even if a certain prosecutor claims that Kian could not be that innocent.

Devolution

This prosecutor is so filled with hatred for anyone who is “yellow” or a yellow supporter which he blatantly expressed in a Facebook post last June 13: “YELLOWS are EVIL. You don’t talk to them, YOU KILL THEM. After you kill one, you find another to DESTROY. Like COCKROACHES.”

Imagine that coming from someone who is named after the one who propounded the “Theory of Evolution” and is now advancing a doctrine of Devolution. I wish him 4,000 varieties of Philippine cockroaches that he can have for the joy of killing. IPIS be with you!
