The Library of Georgetown University in Washington, DC, was recently enriched with the donation of books published in the Philippines—authored by economist, historian and Inquirer contributor Benito Legarda Jr.
Legarda, a former Central Bank deputy governor, has a B.S. in Social Science degree (magna cum laude) from Georgetown. His donation consisted of “Occupation 1942-1945,” as well as earlier works “The Hills of Sampaloc” (about the start of the Philippine-American War in 1899), and “Eight Rizalian Miniature,” published on the occasion of Jose Rizal’s 150th birth anniversary.
A team led by professor Ryan Johnson took delivery of the books at the University’s Lauinger Library on May 23.
Legarda was accompanied by his classmate judge Robert T. S. Colby of Alexandria, Virginia, and his wife, and by two Filipino-Americans who were active in the Ninoy Aquino Movement in Washington in the 1980s—Arabella Harmon Horwicz and Mitzi Picard.
