Surrealist works tackle death and acceptance

“In Gentle Surrender”

Hyperrealist Jaspher Penuliar tackles the intricacies of the human heart in “The Moment of Eternal Surrender.” “My paintings are based on the reality of our need for acceptance,” he said.

Prominent symbols are egg shells and katanas, which represent resistance and rejection. Eggshells signify the fragility and risk of going out of one’s comfort zone. Being sheltered manifests the idea of comfort, hence, the ease of accepting how things are, the artist explained. Grotesque positions of the subjects reflect rejection.

“Organic Memories”

Katana is symbol of resistance. “It’s our way of fighting off the things we choose not to accept,” he said.”

Penuliar tackles death and letting go in his “mummy” paintings. “Mummification seems like a delusion of letting loved ones live again,” he said.

“The Moment of Eternal  Surrender” will be exhibited on Oct. 12-15 at the Galleria Nicolas booth, Booth C7 at SMX Convention Center, SM Aura, Taguig City.
