A new generation of cuddly companions that feature innovative technology and also the capacity to play traditional games is likely to figure large in Santa’s basket this year.
Here’s a selection of the most lovable of these new high-tech creatures:
FurReal Roarin’ Tyler

The Zoomer Unicorn
Following on from last year’s interactive Zoomer Chimp, and the Zoomer Kitty and Zoomer Pony, Spin Master is back with another companion toy for children aged five and up, a purple unicorn with a horn that can change color. The small creature can move around and obey instructions, and even follow her owner around. She also consumes toy carrots and sugar cubes. (Price: $89.99; P4,600)
The Barbie Dreamhorse
The Barbie Dreamhorse by Mattel, which was presented at the New York Toy Fair in February, where it won the Grand Jury Prize in the fashion doll category is one of the leading Christmas gifts for little girls this year. Available now, this long-maned horse is equipped with sensors that enable it to respond to commands to move, dance, neigh, and even eat carrots (Price: $99.99; P5,100)
Hatchimals Surprise
In the latest version of the Spin Master’s interactive toy, which proved to be one of the biggest successes of Christmas 2016, not one but two creatures hatch out of egg, when they have received a quarter hour of encouragement from their future owner. The surprise is that before the egg hatches children do not know if the two twins will be Giravens (half raven and half giraffe) or Peacats (half peacock and half cat). (Price: $69.99; P3,600) JB
