A designers’ row of dream houses

Marcel Wanders

AWARD-winning Dutch product and interior designer Marcel Wanders, who was catapulted to fame with his Knotted Chair in 1996, designs his first home for Century Properties’ Batulao Artscapes, featuring his signature—a row of columns “clad in synthetic textile, woven according to local craftsmanship, that lines the periphery, casting shadow during the day, and at night lighting up dramatically.”

Like his Knotted Chair that is made from lengths of handbraided aramid and carbon fiber cord, giving it the delicate appearance of handcrafted macramé (a technique for making textiles using knotting rather than weaving), Wanders’ home, called Eden, is also revolutionary in design. With generous use of glass, Eden is “open, unfenced,” and luxurious.

Wanders will be among other award-winning architects and designers featured in the villages of Batulao Artscapes, which will showcase designer homes by Revolution Precrafted. There’s the Cluster Village, featuring Polygonal Successions by Ed Calma; The Commune Village, featuring the Hedera Home by Kenneth Cobonpue; The Collection Village, featuring the Tranche and Facet Homes by Budji+Royal; and The Curated Village, featuring Daphne Skin Home, Daphne Guinness, The Billboard Home, David Salle + AA Studio, Eden, Marcel Wanders, Instrumental Home, Marmol Radziner for Architecture/Interiors by Kravitz Design, The Modular Glass Home, Philip Johnson/Alan Ritchie Architects, Butterfly Home, Elizabeth de Portzamparc, We Home, AFGH for Wallpaper, and Adaptation II, Studio Libeskind Design.

Choose your village, choose your home. Combining two townhouses in a mirror image of each other is the Cluster Village. With nature as its organic architect, Commune Village is where nature participates in the design. Collection Village features homes by Budji + Royal, while Curated Village features homes designed by award-winning international designers.

Adaptation II over at Curated Village, for instance, consists of irregular angles around a rectangular core. Designed by Studio Libeskind Design, it is framed by inclined walls, windows and skylights, using rich materials such as aluminum, natural stone, glass and resin. British and Irish fashion designer, art collector, model, musician, film producer and actor Daphne Guinness showcases the Daphne Skin Home, a “fashion house” reflective of the style of the designer. It is composed of a series of fixed and collapsible metal panels in neoclassical designs and modern finishes.

Want to live like a rock star? Or at least, live in a home designed by one? There’s the Instrumental Home by Kravitz Design in collaboration with Marmol Radziner (Marmol Radziner for architecture, interiors by Kravitz Design). A freestanding enclosure with an indoor/outdoor living concept, the home’s exterior materials such as metal wall panels and floor tiles, are carried inside for a seamless transition.
