Philippines’ Karen Ibasco crowned Miss Earth 2017

PASAY CITY — The Philippines’ Karen Ibasco was crowned 2017 Miss Earth in ceremonies staged at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay on Saturday night, making her the fourth Filipino woman to bag the crown.

Katherine Espin from Ecuador, Miss Earth 2016, crowned her successor, a medical physicist who graduated from the University of Santo Tomas, from among 85 other contestants in the 17th edition of the pageant

Before Ibasco, three other Filipinos won the crown – Karla Henry in 2008, Jamie Herrell in 2014, and Angelia Ong in 2015.

Australia’s Nina Robertson, who is part-Filipino, was proclaimed Miss Earth-Air, while Colombia’s Juliana Franco was crowned Miss Earth-Water.

Completing the winners’ circle was Miss Earth-Fire Lada Akimova of Russia.

The global tilt is mounted by Filipino organizers, Carousel Productions.

The winners will serve as global ambassadors promoting environmental conservation. /atm
