Scout forum fosters ‘creative culture’

Scout Magazine editor in chief Lex Celera called for a “creative culture” during the Scout Creative Talks at Samsung Hall in SM Aura Premier.

Hinge Inquirer Publications (HIP) group publisher Bea Ledesma said that magazine publishing continues to thrive in the digital age. Aside from Scout, HIP handles Northern and Southern Living, and Preen.ph.

Illustrator and graphic designer Dan Matutina gave a primer on the art of telling stories through illustrations.

Broadcast journalist Karen Davila lamented the proliferation of fake news in the digital era.

“That Thing Called Tadhana” director Antoinette Jadaone discussed how her films have interesting female characters, such as the one played memorably by Julia Barretto in “Love You to the Stars and Back.”

“A screenplay is a form of literature,” said Jadaone. “Revise, revise, revise until it makes you proud.”

 

This year’s Scout Creative Talks drew a record high of attendees, most of them students and young professionals.

Stylist Rik Rasos and designer Patrick Bondoc said their roots in the DIY (do-it-yourself) culture enabled them to establish their own fashion label, Proudrace.

Music producer Jorge Wieneke V. aka Similarobjects discussed how Sadhana, a daily meditative practice, helped him find inspiration for his musical practice.

Photographer Shaira Luna talked about her struggles to come into her own despite the image frozen in the mind of the public of her as a “child genius” from the popular infant formula advertisement.

Martine Cajucom of Sunnies Studios gave tips on how to maintain a creative brand. “Keep it consistent, keep it real” were her parting words, which were followed by a myriad of questions from the audience.
