Bizu, the beloved French patisserie, is serving festive food to match the holiday mood.
It popularized the dainty French macarons in Manila in 2001, and has since been serving French bistro-style food. For the coming year, founder Annie Tanco and marketing manager Chrissy Palma-Tanco present an updated menu with new items.
Super tried them out at a recent lunch at Bizu in Greenbelt 2 in Makati City.
Burrata with Berries is the bomb. No one really craves salad, as an “old saying” goes, but this one has a whole ball of burrata—fresh chewy mozzarella that reveals a creamy sfilacciata center once sliced. This delicate cheese goes well with fresh strawberry halves, dark cherries and fresh basil leaves, all drizzled with olive oil and balsamic cream dressing.
The Lobster Roll is divine. Lobster meat is sauteed in garlic butter, tossed in lemon aioli, and served between buttery brioche.
Caramelized Pear Ravioli features sweet pear with ricotta encased in handmade ravioli squares, which are cooked in butter, flavored with garlic and rosemary, then finished off with Pecorino.
Those who prefer fish may order the Halibut en Papilotte, or halibut fillet baked in paper, served with Chardonnay cream and Pecorino risotto.
Clam Vongole, Truffle Lengua, Chicken with Lemon and Rosemary complete the list of fresh entrees. All goes well with the classics such as the French Onion soup, Eggs Benedict, and the signature 10-Hour Roast Beef Belly with potato gratin.
For potluck season, Bizu Catering Studio offers party roasts: Whole Turkey with stuffing and pan gravy, cured Lamb Ham with mint jelly, slow-roasted Porchetta with crackling skin and tender meat, and Baked Salmon Rockefeller —a delectable dish of layered spinach, parmesan sauce and Norwegian salmon.
Sweets are also sold for gifting—and personal eating.
Christmas Cakes in Chocolate Caramel, Strawberry Rose and Lemon Walnut flavors would make for colorful noche buena centerpieces.
Carousel Popcorn comes in a charming reusable round tin. Chocolate sets include truffles, pretzels and cookies.
Sugar-free options include Mendiants (traditional French confection) with walnuts, pistachios and pecans, in white, milk and dark chocolate varieties.
