10 Everyday Items Worth Splurging On | Lifestyle.INQ

OCTOBER 27, 2022

Let’s face it–we’re suckers for good deals on almost anything. After all, who would want to spend a ridiculous amount of money on a certain product, if there are decent, and yes, cheaper alternatives?

Being a price-conscious shopper makes complete sense. But there are also instances when “decent” is simply not good enough–especially when it comes to buying essentials.

You’ve probably experienced settling for a cheaper version of a product you need, only to find yourself back at the store quicker than you planned because it was unsatisfactory, defective, or broken. In the long run, experimenting on several cheaper versions could turn out to be even more expensive than going with a solid bet. If you factor in things like durability, performance, and overall quality, you’ll find that some trusted items are truly worth the extra penny.

We’ve compiled a few items you won’t regret spending a little extra on:

1. Butter

Because you deserve the taste of real butter in your morning toast, and not the substitute. In case you’re wondering whether butter versus margarine truly makes a difference in your diet, there’s just nothing like real, good quality butter.

2. Olive Oil

With its many health benefits such as antioxidant and anti-cancer properties, olive oil, especially the extra virgin variety, is good for you. And while they don’t come cheap compared to your regular cooking oil, olive oil is definitely a good thing to have around in the kitchen.

3. Kitchen Knives

A good kitchen knife is one of the most important tools you can have, so don’t risk it by getting a cheap knife that can dull quickly. The best kitchen knives can last forever with proper care. With a reliable paring knife, chef’s knife, and serrated knife, you’re good to go.

4. Bedding

Don’t underestimate the power of a good bed–not only does being able to sleep comfortably affect your health, it also affects the quality of your life. Do your body and mind a favor by getting familiar with thread count and finish, and get a quality mattress and sheets. Some people swear by memory foam.

5. Socks

You can find cheap socks everywhere–in bazaars, in groceries, in bangketas. However, if you find yourself on your feet most of the time and want a pair that can outlast your daily routine, opt for well-made, durable socks carried by trusted brands. They will last longer, keep you comfortable, and prevent blisters. Some socks, for example, even have anti-microbial treatment.

6. Underwear

You should always put extra care into buying quality undergarments. Always have fit and comfort in mind. For women specifically, it’s a good idea to invest in better known brands when buying bras rather than opting for cheaper alternatives. A good-fitting bra, after all, is every woman’s must-have.

7. Grooming Tools

Quality grooming tools are more of a need than a want–you will undoubtedly need good quality razors, tweezers, nippers, and nail cutters. It may seem unnecessary to dole out a substantial amount for mere grooming tools, but inexpensive versions, which easily dull, are potentially harmful and dangerous. Get trusted brands to do the dirty work.

8. Makeup

While it can be tempting to buy knockoffs of popular brands of makeup floating around these days, it’s always a safer bet to splurge on the real thing. Don’t risk the reactions your skin could have on sketchy brands. Foundation, lipstick, and brow kits are just a few essentials that you’re better off spending a little extra on. Opt for long-wearing, organic, skin-friendly and cruelty-free brands.

9. Specs/Contacts

This one is obvious–get proper corrective eyewear, otherwise, you could risk damaging your eyesight. While lenses or contacts bought online may seem like an easy fix to your vision problems, it’s always better to get checked by a specialist. You should also invest in quality frames, ones that can survive the wear and tear of daily life. Also, you should probably put those inexpensive sunglasses down–they might be doing your eyes more harm than good.

10. Earphones

Lost count of the times you’ve had to buy replacement earphones? It may be time to explore. Amazing sound quality is just a bonus after not having to go to the store every two months. While you’re at it, get a trusty phone charging cable, too. There are certain brands that even offer a lifetime warranty.

Because there are things like these worth spending for, you shouldn’t have to worry about settling for lesser versions. Spending for quality items will reap you more pleasure and rewards and it can even be more cost- efficient in the long run.
