Philippines receives St. John Paul II first-class relic | Lifestyle.INQ

OCTOBER 27, 2022

The Philippines through the Manila Cathedral has received a very important relic of St. John Paul II from the pontiff’s former secretary.

The relic, according to CBCP (Catholic Bishops of the Philippines) News, is a vial of the blood of the saint himself, a gift to Filipino Catholics from his longtime aide and secretary and now Cardinal Stanislaus Dziwisz, archbishop emeritus of Krakow in Poland.

The rare relic was brought by a Poland-based Filipino nun on Dec. 11.

The late pope, who was canonized in 2014, celebrated Mass at the Manila Cathedral in February 1981.

Two months afterward, he declared the cathedral, which is celebrating the 60th anniversary of its postwar construction, a Minor Basilica.
