Mangosteenie Miney Mo, Merci Buco—must-drink juices for the new year

Locally’s newest flavor, Merci Buco, has a variant that’s 100-percent organic coconut water.

Homegrown juice brand Locally has introduced a variety of new flavors to the market. The brand is known for using puns in its products, capitalizing on the Filipino love of wordplay.

The 10 new indigenous flavors are Sineguelas (Save the Best for Sineguelas), Mangosteen (Mangosteenie Miney Mo), Dalandan (You’ve Dalandan It Again), Tamarind (Tamarind My Bell), Guyabano (Guyabano-body But You), Calamansi (Calamansi’z The Day), Pomelo (Pomelong and Lasting Love) and Buko (Merci Buco).

The juices are made from real fruit extracts—not from concentrates. One can see fruit particles at the bottom of the juice bottles. The flavors are authentic, as to be expected from these freshly made concoctions.

“There has been a resurgent advocacy promoting homegrown brands and products,” said Locally group product manager Gretchen King. “The country has seen an increase in fairs selling local produce, and restaurants around the Philippines now feature more local dishes and cuisine. Loving local is definitely the in thing right now, and it’s a good thing, because it supports our communities and also promotes Filipino pride. This is what Locally is all about.”

King is particularly proud of the Merci Buco line, which she said is the first truly organic coconut juice product produced in the Philippines. The variant is sold in three flavors: 100-percent Coconut Water, Lychee-flavored Coconut Juice and Buko Pandan. The Merci Buco line is also sold internationally.

“Each of our flavors,” added King, “is created from natural, homegrown fruits sourced from different parts of the country—tamarind from Central and Southern Luzon, mangosteen from Davao, calamansi from Isabela, etc. We aim to raise awareness and appreciation of our local produce and, in turn, support Filipino farmers and the farming community.” —CONTRIBUTED
