A packed schedule of academics and extracurriculars will not stop you from meeting up with your Significant Other on Feb. 14, Valentine’s Day.

Make it more memorable by skipping the flowers and candy. Here are 10 suggestions to keep your date smiling for weeks.

1) Go on a food park trip. Food parks are so all over the metro, you can’t miss them. Satisfy your taste buds by sampling—and sharing—a variety of flavors and cuisines.

2) Lace up those ice skates.

Never skated before? Now’s the time to start. Head over to SM Megamall, Mall of Asia, Southmall or Seaside City Cebu to try a sport that you and your date might like and be good at.

3) Snap selfies in BGC. The vibrant murals around Bonifacio Global City are courtesy of the annual two-week-long mural festival called Art BGC. Created by local and international artists, the colorful and thought-provoking street art makes the perfect backdrop for both wacky and sweet profile pics.

4) Catch the sunrise. Make a pact to wake up early and meet each other in a place where you can witness the first rays of the sun. Not a morning person? Then catch the sunset. And have a picnic while you’re at it—bring coffee and sandwiches for breakfast, a takeout meal for dinner.

5) Go for a run. From the University of the Philippines’ Academic Oval to the slew of road races on weekends, there’s always a place and time to run. Train with your partner and sign up for your first 5K when you feel confident enough. Make sure to cross the finish line together!

6) Jump! Trampoline Park (Mayflower St., Greenfield District, Mandaluyong) and Bounce Philippines (South Tower, SM Southmall) are two places where you can be like kids and jump to your heart’s content. Dodge ball, parkour and other activities keep things interesting and fun.

7) Watch a UAAP game. Rooting for your school team is always better when it’s a shared experience. Men’s and women’s volleyball is ongoing till March, so make sure to catch a game.

8) Appreciate art. Start with the best: Juan Luna’s “Spoliarium” at the National Museum is a masterpiece every Filipino must see. Most museums offer student discounts, so take advantage of the chance to see classic and modern masterpieces with your Significant Other.

9) Or make your own art. Sip and Gogh (check out www.sipandgogh.com for a branch nearest you) encourages first-timers to unleash their inner artist. Friendly art instructors are on hand to guide beginners of all ages, and glasses of wine help you relax and celebrate a fine work of art.

10) Play a board game. Put those smartphones and tablets aside for good old-fashioned Scrabble, Monopoly and other old-school fun. Board game cafes are also attracting the millennial market. Two to try are Ludo Boardgame Bar and Cafe (@ludogamescafe) and Laruan Atbp. Cafe (@laruanph). —CONTRIBUTED
