Japanese meteorologists have released a forecast for the 2018 cherry blossom season, to help travelers and locals alike plan their pilgrimage to the annual spring phenomenon.

Before you book your tickets, make sure to look up the flowering and bloom dates for the area you want to visit so you don’t arrive too early or too late, as provided by the Japanese Meteorological Corporation (JMC).

To help visitors plan their trips, meteorologists publish regular updates for about 1,000 cherry blossom viewing locations from Hokkaido to Kagoshima.

The most recent update published earlier this month, for instance, forecasts that flowering will begin on March 20 in Tokyo, while full bloom is expected to occur March 28.

Flowering depends on the temperature patterns from the autumn season of the preceding year. The JMC forecasts both flowering and full bloom dates based on past temperature and climate data as well as tree growth status, so that visitors can plan their trips accordingly.
