Incubus’ Manila concert: Something for everyone

Incubus

Incubus is probably one of only a few bands in the world whose music is described to have the following elements: alternative metal, alternative rock, art rock, heavy metal, electro-funk, funk metal, jazz, hip hop, nu metal, rap metal, techno, thrash metal, post-grunge,  trip hop, and pop.

In 2017, Incubus guitarist Mike Einziger said that the band’s diversity is “our greatest asset and our biggest flaw. We don’t fit anywhere and we never have. We were never punk rock enough for the Warped Tour, never metal enough for Ozzfest, never quite indie rock or cool enough for Lollapalooza. We’ve carved our own path, and we’re really humbled by the fact that we’ve had so many supporters and people who appreciate our music.”

Nonetheless, the band has remained active since the release of its 1995 debut album, “Fungus Amongus,” which was followed by 1997’s “S.C.I.E.N.C.E.,” 1999’s “Make Yourself,” 2001’s “Morning View,” 2004’s “A Crow Left of the Murder,” 2006’s “Light Grenades,” 2011’s “If Not Now, When?,” and 2017’s “18.”

Aside from Einziger, Incubus is currently composed of Brandon Boyd (lead vocals, percussion), Jose Pasillas II (drums), Chris Kilmore (turntables, keyboards, theremin, synthesizers), and Ben Kenney (bass, vocals).

Incubus’ concert on Feb. 17 at Smart Araneta Coliseum is produced and promoted by Ovation Productions.
