This spring may be the perfect time to head to Hong Kong Disneyland Resort for the first time.
Over a hundred Disney characters will be waiting to welcome you.
“We know a lot of our guests from the Philippines come to look at these characters, especially characters they don’t often see. We call them ‘long-lost friends’ which is quite sweet,” said Annie Wharmby, director of entertainment and costuming at Hong Kong Disneyland Resort.
The bigger than ever Disney Friends Springtime Carnival is happening from March 15 to June 20. The popular Disney Friends Egg Hunt is back with even more character eggs.
“You can run around, find all the eggs. It’s a great way to see the park,” Annie said. “We’re adding Mr. and Mrs. Incredible, Black Panther and, for our Duffy fans, we have the wonderful StellaLou.”
Also back by popular demand is the Springtime Processional.
“This rated so highly with our guests last year,” Annie said. “They loved seeing Mary Poppins and Bert in their Jolly Holiday costumes together with the penguins and chimney sweeps.”
Debuting this spring is the high-energy eight-minute live nighttime projection show
“We Love Mickey!” happening at Main Street, USA, each evening from March 15. “This is something we are extremely excited about. Minnie and her pals are hosting a surprise celebration for Mickey. It’s a larger-than-life celebration for a larger-than-life mouse. The show culminates in a live appearance from Mickey Mouse,” Annie said.
The show features highlights from Mickey’s rich history, a modern Mickey kaleidoscope and color, a lot of color. “We really want to put something on in the evening for our guests to enjoy. We have every facet on Main Street projected on and the show is underscored by music throughout. We know that Mickey Mouse is the icon that everybody recognizes wherever they come from in the world.”
Working with a projection company, the creatives at Hong Kong Disneyland mapped the building facades of Main Street for maximum fun. “There will be things coming in and out of windows, buildings that bend or squash.” It’s a show that’s bound to delight audiences of all ages from all parts of the world and a great way to welcome first-timers to the world of Hong Kong Disneyland.
Moana, the brave and fearless girl who had won numerous Filipinos’ hearts is from a Disney animation film which premiered in 2016. She will make her park debut and greet guests in Adventureland from March, building anticipation for her interactive show which will begin in May. “It’s the first part of our expansion plans which will grow and grow and grow over time,” Annie continued.
This spring, Hong Kong Disneyland Resort will transform into a floral paradise, with fresh decor taking over the park and the three themed hotels—Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel, Disney’s Hollywood Hotel and Disney Explorers Lodge.
Disney friends will be in spring outfits while StellaLou, the newest addition to the Duffy family will be joining the Spring celebration for the first time. There are sculptures of Gardener Mickey, Minnie on a swing and Pluto dreaming of bones.
“Last year we brought in The Hundred Acre Wood Family and also Bambi. This year we are looking at adding the 101 Dalmatians,” Annie said.
Black Panther and Groot are headed to the park from February to April. Spider-Man is set to return from April to June.
“You can expect a stunt moment from him,” Annie said.
The fun doesn’t stop at the park. Families staying at the hotels can join the Easter MagiCarnival from March 30 to April 8. There will be fun outdoor games held on the lawns of the resort’s three themed hotels where guests can enjoy a perfect family bonding time together this spring, “There’re so much to see across the resort so it’s worth your while to stay a couple of days. Spend a day at the carnival then another at the park.”
Guests can bring home spring with them, too. There’s an abundance of super cute merchandise—plush toys, pins, stickers, keychains and more. We’re obsessed with the Duffy, ShellieMay, Gelatoni and StellaLou toys in spring and Easter costumes.
They’re the perfect souvenirs to remind you of your magical first adventure at Hong Kong Disneyland Resort.
