The National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), through its National Committee on Dance led by Shirley Halili-Cruz, is holding Sayaw Pinoy in connection with the 2018 National Arts Month.
Sayaw Pinoy is a touring dance performance which features different dance forms— folkdance/traditional dance, ballet/neo-classical dance, modern/contemporary dance and hip-hop.
Sayaw Pinoy kickstarted the tour last Feb. 7, with a program hosted by the Lyceum of the Philippines Manila. It also toured the University of the East and the Philippine Women’s University.
Forthcoming tours: San Pedro Poveda College and Siena College of Quezon City on Feb. 19; Mapua University on Feb. 20; Marikina and the Philippine Normal University on Feb. 22; and University of Santo Tomas and Adamson University on Feb. 23.
In Visayas, Sayaw Pinoy opened its tour in Roxas City, Capiz, Feb. 12-16.
In Mindanao, Sayaw Pinoy will tour Ozamiz City and Tangub City in Misamis Occidental, and Pagadian City in Zamboanga del Sur on Feb. 19-21.
Davao will also host eight shows on Feb. 21-23.
In Luzon, Sayaw Pinoy will tour Lucena City Feb. 27-28.

Cinema Rehiyon
Meanwhile the NCCA’s National Committee on Cinema led by Commissioner for the Arts Teddy Co is spearheading Cinema Rehiyon X (CRX), the festival of regional films, on Feb. 25-28.
CRX is collaboration with the Dakila Philippine Collective for Modern Heroism and Active Vista International Human Rights Film Festival.
The festival will open on Feb. 25, 1 p.m., at the Evia Lifestyle Center in Las Piñas City with screenings of “Babylon,” by Cebuano filmmaker Keith Deligero, and “Dapol tan payawar na Tayug 1931” (The Ashes and Ghosts of Tayug 1931), by Pangasinan director Christopher Gozum.
Screenings will be followed by a forum on “The Future of Philippine Cinema.”
Aside from partnering with film stakeholders, CRX will also have school tours and will be visiting select universities and colleges within Metro Manila.
School to be toured include: De La Salle University and College of Saint Benilde, Feb. 26; Far Eastern University and University of the Philippines Manila, Feb. 27; and University of Makati, Feb. 28.
Film forums will also be held at the Selah Garden Hotel (“Forging Synergy in Cinema”) on Feb. 26; and QCX (“Finding X: Discovering Stories Untold, Regional Films at the Forefront”) on Feb. 28.
Festival screening will also run at the Cinematheque Manila Feb. 26-28; and at the UP Film Center Videotheque on Feb. 28. –CONTRIBUTED
