In line with World Sleep Day, a day celebrated in the UK when people sleep the entire day every March 16, Neal’s Yard Remedies launched its latest collection that not only helps with deeper sleep, but also helps balance one’s mood.
As I entered Grace Park for an intimate brunch hosted by the all-natural brand that flew in expert Gloria Yuan, the calming smell of candles filled the room. Gloria explained the benefits of each new product, filling us in on where or when each was best to use.
She first explained how the organic, handmade candles had a lower melting point compared to hard petroleum ones that tend to emit black smoke, which releases toxins that stick to clothes or carpets. Made from beeswax and vegetable waxes mixed with fragrances from essential oils, they make for the best aromatherapy candles.
The three choices are Balancing, Calming and Uplifting—each curated for the chosen mood.
Safer alternative
Yuan explained how, in Taiwan, where apartments are quite small, making space limited, candles aren’t allowed because they pose a high risk. This made the perfect introduction for Neal’s Yard Remedies room fragrances which are the safer alternative, without weakening the quality of scent and ambiance.
All three are made of essential oils with higher concentrations, stronger than just burning candles, but alcohol-free so you don’t need to worry about kids or pets being around when using them.
The Uplifting Room Fragrance’s citrus, orange-grapefruit scent is energizing and refreshing, perfect for the home entrance to clean up the smells coming from the outdoors, or for guests to use in the bathroom or the bedroom.
The Balancing Room Fragrance has a patchouli scent that is more grounding because of frankincense. It’s ideal for when you come home from work drained and want peace of mind and a spa-like scent although not quite ready to go to sleep. It balances the mood—it can be used in the workplace when you’re stressed, or you feel like keeping the balance in the atmosphere.
A more floral and feminine option for special occasions is the Calming Room Fragrance. The rosy scent is for people with a hard time sleeping, given its higher percentage of essential rose patchouli.
Another aid for a deeper, more peaceful night’s sleep is the Goodnight Pillow Mist, which is lavender- and chamomile-based—something everyone in the room enjoyed. Its rejuvenating scent is meant to be sprayed around one’s room and over one’s pillow for total relaxation.
This, combined with the Beauty Sleep Concentrate and the Beauty Sleep Body Butter, makes for the perfect slumber because of the harmless ingredients that not only smell good, but are also working to rejuvenate and nourish the skin, from the face to the body. —CONTRIBUTED
