How I made spring invade my home

I don’t exactly agree with the idea that we skip out on spring here in the Philippines. Before the extreme heat that forces us out of the house to go to the beach comes, there is our version of spring. The sun is out but it’s not too warm so it’s great to open our windows to let the light in. Garden parties are abounding this season as opposed to cold nights in during the latter parts of the year. Think of big family gatherings as the kids take a break from school and friends fly in from abroad to spend time with their loved ones. What else do you think about when spring is here? Ah, yes, afternoon chats with friends in the sala, redecorating your living space to fit your new mantra, and just more time to appreciate your home.

Spring here is a time for gathering and for new beginnings. Now that we’re so far over the new year high, spring in the Philippines lets us settle into the swing of things: routines that set us towards our year goals, old habits that are still good are practiced, and changes are made quickly before the showers of the mid-year stop us once again. Don’t forget how we indulge in some spring-cleaning too. It pays to have this pleasant weather while we get rid our house of the things we no longer need.

Bring spring at home

With the spring-cleaning and beginning, there is space and time to enjoy new colors and patterns. I think about how spring is all about the blush of young blooms, the smell of green grass, and the cottages we seek during weekends for clean air. Spring is all about resetting and bringing in what is good to our homes so we can start the growth from within. I simply love it.

My attitude towards spring isn’t only limited to just feelings and occasions. Spring for me also spells a time to upgrade what we’ve gotten used to with a fresh outlook. I think it’s when we can re-invent what we thought could no longer be changed. We do away with mundane things and find something exciting again. This is why I love the season to welcome new additions to my home. I change the table cloths to brighter colors, bust out the pastel colored plates, bring out the whimsical pieces, and simply ask myself what else can I do that haven’t been done just yet.

You know who has the same sentiments? H&M Home. Their new spring collection for 2018 is crisp, fresh, and subtle. I shot with them recently in Tagaytay to show off their collection that features stuff I would personally get too. The floral printed cushions offer a pop of color to any seat. I love the pink bowls and yellow vases with the scallop print. Hints of gold are also present: from the lid handles to the flatware. It’s also very much inspired by nature: wooden candelabras and bird shaped salt and peppershakers break away from the usual. Yellow and green went hand in hand for a relaxed feel. It was then but an initiative of me to set up the tablescape with touches of the environment: a few branches taken from the pine tree and flowers I encased in the glass decor. Spring should crawl into your home with the gentle touch.

I can’t wait to share what H&M Home has to offer you so we actually partnered up for a contest. The lucky winner of H&M gift checks will be chosen this Friday, April 13. Click here to view contest mechanics.

I can’t wait for your stories of why you should get the shopping spree. It will give me an idea of what lives you lead and what you want to use the items for.
