How do you like your pizza? Thin crust or thick? Overloaded with toppings, or with just the right amount of ingredients? American, pan pizza style and oozing with gooey mozzarella, or would you prefer to have it the traditional Italian way—the way PizzaExpress does it?

After serving in the army, reporting for the Associated Press, and traveling to various European countries including France, Germany, Switzerland and Italy, businessman and entrepreneur Peter Boizot realized there was something missing in London: authentic-tasting Italian pizza.

Boizot’s obsession for authenticity encouraged him to ship a pizza oven all the way from Naples, Italy, and make his pizza dreams come true. In 1965, PizzaExpress was born.

Inspired by the finest pizzerias in Italy, PizzaExpress promises to serve handmade pizza goodness with authentic Italian flavors. Luckily for our pizza-loving population, it is now available in the Philippines.

Open kitchen, high-quality ingredients

To ensure that customers get the same PizzaExpress experience they would get in any other branch in the world, the Tasteless Food Group ensures that they will only be using quality ingredients in preparing the dishes. Fresh produce is sourced locally, but other items that give the food distinct Italian flavor are imported through international suppliers.

“We offer delicious pizzas, beautifully designed restaurants and impeccable service. We hope to create a unique dining experience in Manila,” said Liam Collete, PizzaExpress general manager for Hong Kong, UAE, Singapore and Franchises.

Must-try dishes

For starters, try the Baked Dough Balls. Dip these freshly baked, soft, warm dough nuggets in garlic butter, pesto Genovese, or pesto Rosso. Dough Balls also double as desserts if you have them served with Nutella dip.

If you’re craving for something familiar, try the no-frills American pizza. The dough is hand-tossed and freshly made, topped with pepperoni, mozzarella and tomato paste.

If you’re looking to order something meatless, however, try the Lava pizza.

The Burrata cheese topping is cold; a refreshing and creamy contrast against the warm, freshly baked dough topped with cherry tomatoes and basil.

The Calabrese is the only rectangular pizza on the menu. It owes its full-bodied flavor to all of its toppings: everything on it—Calabrese sausage, spicy salami, jalapeños, green chilli, roasted pepper, rocket and pesto Genovese; with fresh mozzarella and parmesan.

For drinks, you can order soda, local beer or even Peroni, which is lager shipped all the way from Italy. PizzaExpress also offers various types of red and white wine.

Health-conscious patrons love the Leggera Superfood. It’s a full meal in itself, packed with avocado, lentils, roasted pumpkin, green beans, baby spinach, mixed leaves, pine nuts, basil and, of course, fresh mozzarella. It is drizzled with balsamic syrup.

PizzaExpress’ best-selling pasta, Spaghetti Frutti di Marre, is an absolute treat for seafood lovers. It combines prawns, clams, mussels and squid in spicy-savoury Pomodoro sauce. You can also opt for the more traditional Bolognese, Carbonara, or a hearty serving of Lasagna Classica.

PizzaExpress offers a compact yet tasty selection of desserts. Our favorite is Big Bad Brownie, a sinful concoction that includes vanilla gelato topped with brownie chunks, biscotti, pistachio and vanilla wafer swathed in caramel sauce.

You can get your cake fix by ordering Tiramisu, Chocolate Fudge Cake or Cheesecake. Choose from PizzaExpress’ tea and coffee selection to complement your cake.

PizzaExpress is at G/L, Uptown Mall, BGC, Taguig.
