Cool summer discoveries

3BORO offers luxury activewear, without the pricey tag.

Another week has passed and in a blink, it will be May. I wish I can say the same about the heat though. I wish it were gone in a blink. But so much for that. All that we can do is enjoy what the season brings and make the most of the yet storm-free skies.

These days, I find myself in the cold grip… of a few good establishments. Power Plant Mall, for example, is slowly opening up its new wing to more shops. After lunch and other errands, I’m happy to stop by to treat myself to some beauty products. This is why I’m glad Clinique has found a home in the new wing.

Fuss-free

The store is pretty straightforward, especially if you want a fuss-free way to get the products you need.

On the left are all the makeup items, categorized according to their use: face, eyes, lips and cheeks.

Worth noting is the Even Better Glow Light Reflecting Makeup. This new foundation has SPF 15 and leaves skin dewy while giving you medium-to-full coverage. If you’re unsure about which shade works best for you, or if you want to commit to this foundation, ask the Clinique staff to give you a sample in a cute little tub so you can try it out.

On the right side of the store, you’ll find Clinique’s skincare range.

Clinique’s 72-Hour Auto-Replenishing Hydrator is the classic Clinique Moisture Surge formula, only intensified. The Clinique guys know exactly what we need after checking back into the city from the beach.

Clinique’s Fresh Pressed System, on the other hand, is a two-step routine that harnesses the power of vitamin C to combat signs of aging. It comes in cute packaging, too, so you won’t forget this in your vanity.

Luxe active wear

Next on my it list this week is 3BORO. This is a New York-based brand specializing in affordable luxury athletic wear. If you’re a gym buff looking for a good investment, I think you should check out its latest collection.

Sold in Aura Athletica, 3BORO offers seven different pieces in fuchsia and black. They’re made of high-quality materials, so all you have to worry about when working out is hitting your goal.

I believe a good workout is also partly due to how confident and comfortable you feel in your active wear.

The 3BORO story started out in Georgetown University. Schoolmates Berin, Sam and Odile, who were born in Turkey, the Philippines and Taiwan, respectively, found common ground in desiring activewear that’s “versatile and high quality, yet still price-friendly.”

In between their crazy professional lives in New York, they worked on the brand.

I’m glad that 3BORO now has a place in one of the founders’ home countries. Talk about going global and thinking local, too!

Laura Mercier’s Velour Extreme Matte lipstick

Creamy lippies

For my last of this week’s discoveries, I introduce to you Laura Mercier’s new lipstick range. It’s called the Velour Extreme Matte Lipstick. Matte lipsticks have become a staple in anyone’s beauty arsenal, and I’m glad Laura Mercier has joined the game.

These twist-up, pen-type lipsticks offer single-stroke full coverage but with a creamy texture. That means it is nondrying. Swiping it on my lips didn’t take much effort; it didn’t pull or tug—always a good sign for a lipstick.

The shade range doesn’t disappoint as well. There are 24 colors, from a bright neon pink (Fab) to a deep blue purple (Extreme).

Naturally, I gravitated to more nude colors like Fresh, which is a deep pinky nude, and Fierce, a chocolate brown.

One can never go without a red, and if you’re fair-skinned, you’ll like the classic bluish red that is Dominate.

I hope you like what I’ve discovered this week. I wonder what else the summer will bring?
