“Un Concierto de Guitarra,” a classical guitar concert

“Un Concierto de Guitarra,” a classical guitar concert, will take place on June 23, 6 p.m., at the Philippine Madrigal Singers Music Studio in Eastwood City.

Featured are young classical guitarists Rafael Ronquillo and Aaron Alvarez Biag. Event is presented by the Phenomenal Subic, Inc.

Biag, a graduate of the Centro Escolar University Conservatory of Music, performed at the “Selebrasyon: Pagbunyi sa Ani ng Sining 2014” at the Cultural Center of the Philippines and Paco Park Presents. A finalist of the Himig ng Panahon Guitar Competition 2017, he now teaches at the Manila Symphony Orchestra Music Academy.

Ronquillo was a student of the University Santo Tomas of Manila Conservatory of Music, El Conservatorio Superior “Oscar Espla” de Alicante in Alicante, and Musica en Compostela in Santiago de Compostela, the latter two institutions both in Spain. He teaches at the UST Faculty of Arts and Letters.

Biag and Ronquillo are part of the Silangan Chamber Guitar Ensemble under professor Ruben F. Reyes.

The June 23 program includes folk music by Joaquin Turina and Manuel Maria Ponce. Philippine music by Angel Peña, Bayani Mendoza de Leon and Nicanor Abelardo will also be performed.

As a duet, Biag and Ronquillor will present some well-known pieces from the operas of Gioachino Rossini and Manuel de Falla, and film music by Ennio Morricone.
