Longing, passion and what-ifs are the themes that inspired the artworks of a group exhibit by Shelved Wishes, which opened last June 16 at Prism Gallery in Makati.
Consisting of Filipino visual artists (some of them contributors of Inquirer Lifestyle’s To be You section) and creative writers, Shelved Wishes produced artworks depicting their childhood dreams in styles that range from colorful and whimsical to dark and mysterious.
Apart from the framed artworks in various mediums, the works were made into postcards, making them affordable to the young.
Young and innocent heart
Founded in 2017, Shelved Wishes derived its name from the theme of childhood. According to Raine Sarmiento, one of the members of the group, it is a “wish that was made by the young and innocent heart,” which is the kind that is hardest to forget.
“Once our works were compiled, there was variety and diversity,” said Sarmiento of the group show’s visual impact.
Shelved Wishes also includes Borg Sinaban, Sabrina Palmares, Kevin Roque, Rex “Dasig” Aguilar, Lucille Tungol, Aaron Asis, Aldy Aguirre, Yas Doctor, Fran Alvarez, Dawn Lanuza, Aira Villena, Jericho Moral and others.
The exhibit runs until June 30. Prism Gallery, Island Tower Condominium, 239 Salcedo St. cor. Benavides St., Legazpi Village, Makati. Exhibit is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday to Saturday.
