World’s 1st Michelin-star food stall opens today at Mall of Asia

Hawker Chan’s Soya Sauce Chicken

There’s a new Michelin-star restaurant in town. And it won’t make a dent on your wallet.

At Hawker Chan, for only P128, diners can have the chicken rice plate that made its creator, Malaysian-born Chan Hon Meng, famous in Hong Kong and Singapore.

He started serving his signature dishes at a stall in the Chinatown Food Center, where long queues formed even before opening time. Now, with a Michelin star awarded by the Singapore Michelin Guide in 2016, Chan’s dishes have become a brand expanding around Asia.

“Manila is always looking for the best value products, and with Hawker Chan, we believe that being the cheapest Michelin star in the world, it is the epitome of value,” Rikki Dee, CEO of Foodee Global Concepts, told Lifestyle.

Dee is bringing the brand to the Philippines.

Hawker Chan’s menu will be exactly the same as in other Hawker Chans across the region—including the popular pork rib, roast pork and char siu, all below P200.

These dishes come with either rice or noodles. Local fare will be added eventually. —CONTRIBUTED

Hawker Chan opens on the ground floor of SM Mall of Asia, North Wing, today, July 26.
