“Combatron” author Berlin H. Manalaysay confirmed the return of the blue Funny Komiks hero this December.

Manalaysay shared the news through a Facebook post on Tuesday, Sept. 4, wherein he simply wrote “Combatron Comics December 2018.”

Included with the post was an artwork depicting Combatron leaping off a transforming Dobbernaut while he launched one of his hip discs toward an unseen enemy.

It appeared the newest installment to the unfinished “Combatron” saga will be distributed on an order basis. Manalaysay replied to an inquiry that he would post the order details in a future Facebook entry.

A previous interview on a June 2018 episode of the evening news magazine program “Tapatan ni Tunying” revealed how Manalaysay decided to continue his work and finish Combatron for the fans. The author attributed the rise of social media for his renewed effort on the classic comic. He said the discovery of Combatron fans on social media pushed him to finish the story in a manner befitting his readership’s current age bracket, which is the 30s.

Independent game publisher Ranida Games teased a “Combatron”-inspired game in development back in 2016 code-named “Project Combatron.” At the time, the announcement came with a teaser video that featured a new look for the beloved blue cyborg hero. As of this writing, no other updates have been posted on the game’s Facebook account.

“Combatron” debuted in the now defunct Funny Komiks back in 1990. The story began when the orphaned boy Empoy saw a spaceship crash while visiting the graves of his parents. Inside the crashed ship he found an Omniconian cyborg who called himself Combatron. After explaining his circumstance, the dying cyborg passed on his blue armor and companion, the cybernetic dog Askal (Asong Mekanikal), to the overwhelmed Empoy. Thus began the adventures of an orphaned boy who grew into his inherited cybernetic suit and became the hero known as Combatron.

Publication of the comic would run until 1997 when it was abruptly stopped before the story could reach its conclusion. /ra
